Debate

Debate Overview

Want to debate? On The New Center’s interactive platform, any user can challenge another user to a three-round debate, with the winner decided by an audience vote. Here’s how it works:

  • A debate Starter challenges a debate Opponent by selecting a topic, adding a title, crafting an opening argument, and including the email address of their opponent.
  • An email is then sent to the Opponent notifying them of the challenge and listing the details set by the Starter. To accept the challenge and begin round one, the Opponent clicks the included link to respond to the Starter’s argument. Once a response is made, the other party is notified by email, and both parties trade arguments for three rounds.
  • If a user does not respond to a pending argument within 24 hours, they forfeit the debate.
  • After three rounds, the audience will have three days to vote on a winner. Both parties will be notified of the audience’s decision via email: win, lose, or draw.
